What is an affirmation?
An affirmation is a statement or message that something is true.
It’s a statement that you hear repeatedly from an outside source or a thought that repeat in your head over and over again.
An affirmation does not necessarily represent the Universal Truth. It may be true for you or for another person but it is not always the truth.
In fact, you may not even believe the affirmation, but the point is that it’s a statement that keeps repeating itself.
Eventually, when you hear something stated enough times, you will begin to accept it as true and start to believe it.
Types of affirmations:
An affirmation can be of a positive or a negative nature.
Here are some examples: I’m clumsy, I’m stupid, I’m powerful, I’m logical, I’m easily distracted, I’m beautiful, I’m healthy, I’m lazy, I’m a good chef, I’m a terrible mother, I like cheese, I love wine, gardening is good for me.
Here are some more: the world is out of control, life is dangerous, to be a human is to suffer, aliens are taking over, mind control is coming, love heals all, mind over matter, we are eternal, practice and all will come, vaccines are evil, we can’t be free without a vaccine.
Think about the negative affirmation above. Did any of these triggers an emotion?
Such negative affirmations seem to be underlying much of the media today. Fear and negativity are powerful tools to mold and shape our society, our external world and through that, access and mold our internal world. And it works the other way to. Instill negative programs into an individual, this individual will project those programs to people in her immediate circle, who in turn will influence their sphere of circle, eventually spreading negativity and fear throughout the entire tribe.
This is actually good news. In the same way as statements or affirmations can put us in the state of fear, they can put us in the state of peace and harmony. In the same way as our society can change us, we can change our society.
The same knife used to kill can be used to clear a pathway through the woods and break open a coconut.
It all starts with the individual – you.
What kind of a person you chose to be will determine the quality of the world you live in.
In the upcoming articles we will talk more about positive affirmations, how to write them and how to use them for best results.
We will also talk about why affirmations fail, why we can’t “fix” thing with affirmations alone and the limitations created by the law of attraction.
Think about your thoughts and beliefs about yourself and the world. Just list them out. Then look at which come first and the ratio of negative to positive. It’s a good litmus test for you to gauge whether you are living under the umbrella of fear or under the umbrella of love.
