Do you feel disconnected or estranged from your body, thoughts, or emotions? Feeling as if you are in a dream or are watching yourself in a movie? You might have DPD, depersonalization-derealization disorder.
As a young child, I always felt that I was observing my life without participating in it. It was as if I was staring out at the world through my eyes, as if my mind and body were two separate things. Of course I could feel pain or taste the food, but I didn’t feel as if I was part of the world, only watching it.
Once I got older, it surprised me when I learned that other people didn’t feel the same way. My disconnected feeling was not normal, and it was hard to believe that others weren’t going through life in the same way. So I thought “I am different”, I accepted this and even felt a sense of relief.
One day I was driving in a car, and I caught myself in a startling thought pattern. I was thinking, “This is just a dream, even if I crash the car, I will just wake up”. This thought scared me enough to begin looking for more answers about this type of thinking, and the mind and body disconnect I was feeling. I went where most people go today for answers, and I went to Google to begin my research.
Unsure of what I was really searching for, I began typing, “I feel like I’m watching a movie of my life. I feel like I live in a dream state.”
I was surprised and elated to learn that many people in the world were describing the same symptoms, the same feelings I had been living with my whole life. I finally had some answers as I learned that there is a very real disorder called DPD – or Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder, that described many of my symptoms perfectly.
Depersonalization-derealization disorder occurs in approximately 1%–2% of the general population. This disorder is episodic in about one-third of individuals, with each episode lasting from hours to months at the time.
Once I had some answers to my nagging feelings, I wanted treatment. I wanted to feel part of the world, instead of simply an observer. I quickly learned that few doctors know much about DPD, and even fewer know how to treat the disorder. I have searched for years to find an area psychologist with experience in treating DPD, and I have not had any luck.
I continued my research on DPD, diving into as many books, blogs, and articles I could find on the topic. I was disheartened to learn that so far there is little to be done for the disorder to manage or cure the symptoms. I learned that you are supposed to learn how to cope, manage your anxiety, learn how to deep breathe, and otherwise simply deal with this disorder on your own.
I began feeling hopeless, and stressed that I wasn’t able to find any help. I started eating a better diet, avoided any triggers to stress, slept on a regular schedule and learned relaxation and breathing techniques. I worked hard not to let the disorder control me, but I felt as if I was losing the battle. I made the decision to take my healing into my own hands, and I went to Bali. I met great healers here, and this is where I learned all about Lost Soul Retrieval process.
What are the symptoms of soul loss?
Symptoms of soul loss present themselves as different combinations for everyone. Pay attention to the warning signs such as…
- you’re not all here, nobody’s home
- feeling ungrounded, “spacey”, daydreaming
- acting as if something is missing
- scattered, disassociated, disconnected, a lack of focus
- feelings of being dead inside, emotional numbness
- no sense of direction or purpose in life
- observing life as an outsider rather than being fully involved, inability to trust others
- excessive anger or a limited range of emotional expression
- depression at any level, hopelessness, fatigue, extreme sadness
- post traumatic stress disorder
- pervasive fear, phobias, panic attacks
Soul loss, the fragmenting of the subtle body, is a primary cause of physical illness. Treatment for soul loss, called soul retrieval, is practiced in many tribal shamanic cultures, but was unknown to modern shamans until Sandra Ingerman rediscovered it. Sandra Ingerman has written about this phenomenon in her books Soul Retrieval and Welcome Home.
Sandra noticed that many of her clients who had backgrounds of trauma or abuse reported that they psychically removed themselves from the abuse situation. Psychologists call this dissociation, but to shamans, this psychic flight from trauma has a tangible reality. Unlike a shaman, who travels from his physical body with part of his subtle body on the sound of drums or rattles, and then returns to their physical body, these abuse survivors did not necessarily know how to return to their physical bodies. Parts of their souls actually left, split off, to wander in the shamanic realms.
People with soul loss have low resistance to disease and are frequently subject to infestation by spiritual parasites. They may suffer from hypersensitivity or extreme allergies. They may feel spaced out and disconnected in their daily relationships, or have trouble forming relationships with others. Sandra Ingerman teaches her students to search throughout the shamanic realms and bring back the lost soul part to the client directly. The shaman carries the soul part to the client, and blows it into the client’s solar plexus and the top of the head with their breath.
Soul retrieval is a subtle but extremely powerful healing method. The full benefit of soul retrieval is not fulfilled until a year and a day have passed after the treatment. Soul retrieval is not a healing people need to repeat time and again. In the absence of trauma and abuse, the soul usually stays put.
If you are treated with soul retrieval, you may find that you recover lost abilities. It is best to be extra kind and gentle to yourself while the new soul part is integrating back into the main soul. Try to get plenty of rest and don’t allow anything to disturb your equilibrium. Welcome yourself back home! You will be filled with your own soul power and rejoining with yourself will make you stronger than you have been before.
